Everyone knows that Starbucks is the #1 coffee chain in America, ringing in at over 11,000 stores in the U.S., but who is number 2? The answer is Caribou Coffee. Caribou Coffee has just over 500 shops in the U.S. and is in only 16 states but, is currently expanding their territory. What got me thinking about all of this was a simple K-Cup. For those of you that don't know, K-Cups are a type of coffee pod that goes into Keurig coffee makers, and Caribou Coffee is one of the leading manufacturers of K-Cups. As I was putting the K-Cup in my machine, I noticed a new logo on the K-Cup and so I decided to do a little research into the matter and ended up finding out a lot of interesting information about Caribou Coffee. Caribou Coffee prides themselves on a ski lodge type feel in all of their shops and they make it clear that the taste of their coffee is smooth and light instead of bitter and burned, an obvious stab at Starbucks. As Caribou Coffee is growing and expanding, they decided recently that it was time for a new logo.
There are a couple different aspects to the new logo. Notice that the two legs form a coffee bean in the middle and the antlers at the top form a C thus equaling Caribou Coffee. It was time for a refresh due to the fact that the old logo reeked of 90's.
Caribou CEO Mike Tattersfield has great aspirations of opening up to 2,000 Caribou Coffee locations, but he is not in a rush to reach that goal anytime soon so stay tuned as Caribou Coffee continues to grow.
